Fading Image focuses on the day to day feelings of a daughter who had no answers in the beginning. As time goes on in the dialogue of the book you will see my growth; emotionally, physically, and spiritually. You will be aware of the love between a mother and a daughter. You will experience love in all areas of life. I will try and answer questions you have if you have an Alzheimer’s sufferer in your life. I will try and guide you through the first steps, second steps and the life after the sufferer has passed. It was not an easy journey for my mom and myself. It was however the most learning experience in my life, the most spiritual, the most telling.
Alzheimer’s is a horrific, horrible disease. I don’t even have enough adjectives to describe its intensity on oneself. It can be, at times, sheer torture. Reading my book will help you to laugh at the most disgusting things, help you to realize some things just really don’t matter, and that you will live through this. I promise.
I have often said I am not writing Fading Image for fame or fortune. I am writing it so no one will have to feel the way I did when first being told “Your mom is mentally incompetent” … Don’t ever feel alone, ever. Read the book, write down your feelings, feel the love while experiencing our journey, mine and moms. If my book helps you in any way, then I am blessed, that is my fame and fortune. Alzheimer’s versus love. The winner - LOVE.

Fading Image A Mother and Daughter Their Journey Through the Mire of Alzheimer Mary Ray Birdwell 9781944313661 Books

A really well written and touching chronicle of the writer's journey through her mother's Alzheimer's disease. Although the ending is known, it is a fascinating and compelling roller coaster! It covers the day to day decisions, frustrations and pain, as well as simple and sometimes humorous tasks that spontaneously and hilariously come up. Alzheimer's Disease is called the "Long Goodbye" for a very good reason. Ms. Birdwell is the primary caretaker for her Mom. This book demonstrates the love and dedication (some parts easy, some parts difficult) required of the caretaker. It also describes the unfortunate topic of elder abuse and financial exploitation that can affect the AD sufferer, frequently without their knowledge and understanding. Read the book and learn something. This book has everything in it!

Fading Image A Mother and Daughter Their Journey Through the Mire of Alzheimer Mary Ray Birdwell 9781944313661 Books Reviews

Excellent read. It runs the gamut of all emotions. The roller coaster ride of AD is made clear in the day to day dealings of a mother and daughter and the ravages of a horrific disease. At times unbearably sad and then you are laughing helplessly. This is a book about vulnerability and unconditional love. When you think you can't take one more step, God shows you the way. While it is hard to believe there is anything positive in the storm that is AD, Mary shows us there is always a light to follow. A must read for anyone dealing with a seemingly impossible situation.
WOW WHAT A BOOK OF LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING IN A CHILD/PARENT RELATIONSHIP. A MUST READ FOR ALL OF US. PLEASE BUY IT, READ IT AND PASS IT ON TO SOMEONE ELSE WHOM IT WILL HELP TO UNDERSTAND
Your story is so very comforting to those of us who have a loved one who has or is currently experiencing alzheimers/dementia.So much of it I could relate to and other parts have not happened yet.I will remember your words when the time comes and know they will make it easier for my family and I to walk down that path with my Dad.Your sense of humor during such a difficult and painful time ,amazes and inspires me.Thank-you for sharing your personal experience and your beautiful Mother.
Mary, we have given a copy of your book to one of our neighbors. This dear sweet lady has had the experience of Alzheimers and Dementia in her life of approximately 80 years. Once she had the book for a few days she came to greet us at the curb in front of her house as we drove by. She was trying to express her appreciation for the book through tear filled eyes. Her words were "I would read awhile, cry awhile." What a dear precious treasure you have contributed to mankind. Thank you for being obedient to the Lord's leadership as you shared the painful experience of the journey with your mother. This book will minister to the lives of many for years and years to come. Love, Love, Love and thanks!!
FADING IMAGE is an absolute must read! It gives first hand insight to the world of Alzheimer's experienced by a daughter who conquers obstacle after obstacle with unconditional love and determination for a mother living in the fog of AD.
For those whose lives have been turned inside out by this debilitating disease, this book is for you. Mary shares with you her journey and how her mother's battle with AD soon became her own. She never fails to give credit to her faith and how God opened doors that may never have been opened had she not looked to Him for the keys.
For those of you who have concerns that a loved one may be showing early signs of AD and you just feel something is "off", this book is for you. Don't wait....take action now to find help for them. There is a network of physicians, counselors and caregivers available to answer your questions and give you direction.
For those of you who have not been personally affected by AD, but are watching from the sidelines a friend or a friend's loved one battling this monster, this book is for you. Share Mary's story with them to give them hope and encouragement to move forward on behalf of their loved one.
Emotions will run high as you experience with Mary the beginning, the middle and the end of her fight for her mother's welfare and her dignity.
The obstacles she faced were many but her strong faith she's certain carried her through her journey along with the many angels she met along the way.
There is much unknown and unanswered about this disease and much to be learned. This book is a guide to many of the questions you will have and a beam of light to those whose world has been darkened by the veil of AD.
Mary's battle not only entailed dealing with her mother's physical and mental well being but with people as well. Beware of those who masquerade as your loved one's ally but rather have an agenda to not only take advantage of their illness with physical neglect but their finances also.
The laws protecting those impaired by AD and other mental illnesses are in need of change desperately. Not only are people capable of the unthinkable but well known financial institutions can be a threat as well.
I believe this will be Mary's future mission to accomplish this task with the same determination and resolve she had to fight and overcome the ravages of her mom's AD.
Be prepared to laugh, to cry, and to find yourself cheering Mary along as you share an emotional roller coaster ride with her into the world of Alzheimer's! Enjoy her honesty, her humor and her poetry as well as her openness to share such a personal experience with the world!
It is so worth the read!
I knew Rosemary when we were both members of the Dallas Police Department....she was a much respected detective in the days before females were allowed to work in the patrol division. I just downloaded this book and cannot wait to read it to get to know Rosemary as a person away from the Department. From all of the reviews, and from knowing the principle character, I am certain I will find the book to be an inpiration. Thanks to Mary for opening her family story to us.
Reading Fading Image was like watching Maleficent. OK, that’s stretch but the emotion of “true love” fits perfectly with this book detailing Mary’s experience with her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The book is about joy even through the despair of loss. How people as caregivers can cope and provide dignity to those we love. Mary has done her mother a great service in honoring her disease, the darkness and her death with this beautiful book. The day-to-day things that come up that no information sheet from the doctor or the internet can give you about the disease. Invaluable information. Like the love of a mother for her children, this daughter's journey was one of True Love for her mother. Beautiful.
