Lake Price isn’t your average teenage girl.

Sure, she and her friends are doing what many other high school kids do on Cape Cod heading to Chatham Manor—nicknamed “Hell”—for a good scare. But for Lake, it’s more than just a thrill-seeking game. It’s what keeps her alive.

Ever since her brother, Kimball, disappeared four years ago, Lake has needed danger and fear to feel anything but numb.

But on this night, “Hell” has more in store for Lake than she ever anticipated A handsome stranger from the 17th century, a modern love triangle, a coven of witches, a hint that Kimball may still be alive… and the start to something that only she can finish.

Praise for The Red Bishop

"Lake Price may be yet another regular teen plucked from obscurity for a quest only she can complete. But unlike the sweet nerds that Harry Potter and Percy Jackson once were, Lake's got a serious dark streak... Boose's prose is quick, dark, exciting. He's got the thriller element dialed. There are shades of Stephen King in the breathless horror of it all. This isn't your everyday YA novel, there's way more to it."— Lauren Herstik, Nerdist.com

“There is time travel, magic, romance, mystery, betrayal, and a bit of an epic quest.  The cast of characters is just as diverse...I’m hoping it is a cliffhanger for another book in the future because I want to know MORE!” — The Caffeinated Diva Reads

The Red Bishop eBook Greg Boose

The Red Bishop was a real page turner and a fantastic read! I was captivated from beginning to end, and never wanted to put it down. The author used such descriptive imagery I felt as if I was there in the room watching every move. I loved Lake Price and her gang of friends. The banter between them was realistic and very funny, especially Logan. They made laugh out loud several times throughout the book. The witches were creepy, and I quickly became invested in the search for Kimball, Lake’s missing brother. All this, plus a love triangle, jealousy, danger, action and all that goes along with being a teenager, makes for a very fast paced, enjoyable read. I recommend this book to everyone. When is the sequel coming out?! There's so much I still need to know.

The Red Bishop eBook Greg Boose Reviews

I am totally hooked. Greg Boose's The Red Bishop is a compelling kick-off to a supernatural YA series with great potential. The characters sound real, and they show great depth and development. Lake Price is a legit supernatural heroin and fans of Buffy, Supernatural, and Sleepy Hollow will love this book and the world Boose has built within it.
A friend recommended that I read The Red Bishop and I found it incredibly enjoyable and *scary*! This book is definitely a page-turner - the author is quite a captivating and imaginative storyteller. I really found the protagonist, Lake Price, to be a well-developed and interesting character. I love that the story continues, I'm looking forward to seeing what else is in store for Lake!
This was a such an entertaining read. Fast-paced and seriously scary, but still fun (although I can't guarantee you won't have nightmares about someone trying to eat your hair).

The main character, Lake, seeks out thrills to escape the emotional numbness she's felt since her brother was kidnapped. But one night she gets more than she bargained for when she explores a very creepy basement and finds some old playing cards that belonged to her brother, a hot "zombie" boy who doesn't seem to see her, and a terrifying old woman who turns out to be a witch. From there, Lake discovers that she's the Red Bishop—the chosen one a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer—with the power to kill witches. Mind you, these are seriously disturbing witches who live underground, can't be seen by adults, and are responsible for the disappearance of children around the world.

Lake is less interested in the fact that she's the Red Bishop and more in the possibility that her brother may still be alive, held captive somewhere. So she sets out to find him and defeat the local coven along the way. Like Buffy, Lake has her own gang of Scoobies Madison, Ell, and Logan. I loved them and their banter! There's also a love triangle to keep things interesting. Ell has had a crush on Lake forever and she's beginning to have feelings for him, too, but their relationship hits a speed bump in the form of John, the hot zombie boy who Lake frees from the witches' clutches. There's a bit of a culture clash, since he's from the 1700s. But he's brave, sensitive, and looks good without his shirt on—and that's really what matters.

The only thing I didn't love was that the ending leaves you hanging, so now I've got to wait for the sequel. And I can't wait, because it looks like Lake has found her Giles.
I could NOT put this book down. I read it in two days by basically skipping sleep which is quite a sacrifice as a mom of two small children. SUCH. A. FUN. READ.

Other reviews have given a great synopsis, so I won't do that in my review. Instead, I'll talk about the main character, Lake, who I thoroughly enjoyed. Sometimes the teenage characters in YA novels annoy the hell out of me (e.g. Clary and Jace from the Mortal Instruments series). Lake did not annoy me at all! She isn't whiny or over-the-top. Instead, she's brave, but vulnerable. She's clever and funny, yet not too much so. Her love for her brother is what drives her. She is smart and protected like a Katniss and selfless and brave like a Beatrice Prior. Yet, she is still her own heroine. She battles some seriously terrifying witches LIKE A BOSS.

As for the other characters, I truly enjoyed Ell, one of Lake's love interests. He is a dear. Truly likeable and a friend we would all want. I hope to see a whole lot more of him in the next book. Logan is a hoot and great comic relief during tense moments. I agree that the whole twist with Lake's best girlfriend Madison was completely unexpected. I predict she and Lake's brother Kimball find each other...and fall in love. Just sayin' it could happen. And, finally, John - the hot zombie boy turned witch fighter - I think he should be played by Jeremy Irvine in the movie...because this book should definitely be made into a movie. Witches are totally the next big thing. And, Mr. Irvine is British so he can pull off the whole "I just got off the Mayflower" accent.

Bottom line you should download this book and read it now. Like today. It is, after all, set during Thanksgiving time. I'm sorry, however, that you won't be sleeping much in the next few days because you 1) won't be able to put the book down and 2) will be afraid that a big scary witch with long fingers and hollow eyes will be waiting for you in your basement.
